The Process in Making a Sibley Motors’ ad

Often I am presented with some scribbled notes to design my ads from. This particular instance I was handed some scribbled notes, a dealership memo, and some cut outs of various logos. Any help gives me a quick start to visualizing the ad before I begin. I was able to take all the different ideas given to me and turn them into one cohesive ad while staying well within the expected parameters of the ad. All design work was done in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS4 on a Mac OSX system.

Variations of Sibley Motors’ Ads

These two ads illustrate how flexible I have to be while working at the Plainsman. The first ad was designed from the original copy presented to me. By the time the ad went to the press the two trucks featured were sold. The customer needed the same ad space but wanted to run different copy. The other concept was presented to me and I had to alter the ad within the closing deadline. I stayed within the same concept and framework of the first ad and completed the second ad with plenty of time to spare. The customer was happy and the ad was printed in the statewide State Fair publication. I used both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS4.

Sibley Motor’s Tent Event

Chrysler’s Tent Event is a national promotion and Sibley Motor wasn’t about to sit this event out. They wanted a full color ad to show the Huron, South Dakota area that the deals were real and so was the tent. I had the pleasure of designing this ad for them. I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS4 on a Mac OSX system.

Super Truck Load Sale!

Our TV Guide publication at the Plainsman is one of the most important sections of the paper. It comes out twice a week, Saturday and Tuesday, and we offer full color, full page advertisements. Anderson Furniture knows how important to have an ad in this section is. I have made several ads for them for the TV Guide. Here is the latest. It’s a full color, full page ad advertising their Super Truck Load Mattress Sale. I was handed a flier made by the manufacturer, Sealy and had to emulate it. I looked it over a saw where the improvements could be made and I went to work. I used the “Russian Poster Art” color palette in Adobe Illustrator for the colors.  I did all the layout and design in Illustrator as well.  I modified the truck in Photoshop.

Dakota Fireworks

It’s that time of the year when we celebrate our independence. The Fourth of July holiday usually brings a bang or two in backyards throughout the country. And who provides all this explosive fun? Dakota Fireworks at your service! Dakota Fireworks needed a few thousand double sided full color fliers within a tight budget. The Plainsman was glad to help. I designed both front and back with help from the input of the customer. These will be printed on our web press to insure cost effectiveness. All work was done on a Mac computer and software used was Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS4.

National Turkey Lover’s Month

June is National Turkey Lover’s Month. And why not? Turkey is great anytime of the year. Dakota Provisions in Huron is one the nation’s leading turkey producers and they have one of the most technological advanced plants in the world right here in Huron! A big supporter of the community, Dakota Provisions wanted to let everyone know that they are serious about Turkey Lover’s Month. They came to the Plainsman and bought just under a 1/2 page of space to advertise to the community about this special month. I designed this particular ad using both Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS4.

Father’s Day

Father’s Day is this weekend and Anderson Furniture in Huron is ready. They are, of course, having a recliner sale, featuring the Signature Series by Lane. What more could Dad want? Anderson turned to us at the Plainsman to communicate this sale to Huron and the surrounding communities. I used a sailing theme fashioned after some rough copy the sales rep gave me. The clip art was pulled from Metro Creative Services and the entire ad was built using Adobe Illustrator CS4.

Blissful Herbs

I have been working with Siddhi Energetics, which is based in Denver, Colorado for over three years now. They came to me when I was still at the Art Institute of Colorado and they were still operating from their kitchen table. They have grown to a national company and as their exclusive Graphic Designer I have had a chance to be a part of that journey every step of the way. I designed the labels below for their Blissful Herbs line that sells exclusively in Whole Foods Market. Here is where you can find more information about Siddhi Energetics. All labels were made in Adobe Illustrator CS3.

Slumberland Furniture

Here are a couple of ads I did for Slumberland Furniture here in Huron. I wanted to showcase a grayscale ad, as that is what the bulk of my work is at the Plainsman. Both ads were made in Illustrator CS4 on a Mac.

Get Out and Ride!

Huron Motorsports had to get the word out that it was Spring time and it’s time to buy a new toy. They turned to the Daily Plainsman to get this done. I made this ad using both Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 on a Mac.
